At Chichen Itza
At the summit of the Stepped Pyramid
The ancient Mayans looked to the stars
Seeking answers to the Greater Mysteries
The transit of Venus, the turning of the ages
The New Millennium dawning
Mid-Winter, 2012, the time of reckoning
The moment of choice making
“Where will we go from here?”
Into the darkness or into the light
The equinoxes of autumn and spring
Shafts of light from the west
The feathered serpent rattles a warning
On the stairs of the Great Temple
Glyphs carved in the stone whisper a tale
Long abandoned to oblivion:
The Yucatan jungle reclaimed the ruins
The Mayans lost their way
Appeasing the Gods with blood
The Conquistadors came
Cortez invoking the spirit of the serpent
Penance must be done
Yet, some relics of the Ancient Knowledge remained
Three hundred years later, a library in Dresden,
A scholar deciphered the keys to the code
The wheeling of the stars, the sun and moon,
Venus and Mars, the end of days
Or the new beginning?
In the fifth age, as we look to the Sun,
Will we find our way?
Will we know how to choose?
